13 Apr Power distribution system will be upgraded

One of the Achema's activity is supply of power distribution service. The first power distribution equipment in plant area was build in 1968. With support of EU structural funds, 23 units of 6 kV switch-gears built until 1970 were upgraded through a number of stages. Value of power modernization projects - 4.2 million Euro, of which 40 per cent were allocated from the EU structural funds.

"While always, even with old equipment, have tried to keep reliability of the power supply, it is clear that equipment operating more than four decades created more and more problems," - V. Virkutis, chief of Electrical department, has substantiated necessity of the power distribution modernization projects. "We had to replace hundreds of circuit breakers, relay protections, to build a modern accounting system in order to maintain the company's operating efficiency and process stability."

Reliability of power supply is one of the most important tasks to ensure performance stability of the whole day operating plant. AB Achema, based on the criteria set out in the license, provides power transfer services also for other companies operating in the territory of the company. In order to enhance the reliability of power supply not only for the company itself, but also for more than 24 companies that are connected to Achema's distribution network, medium voltage distribution equipment in existing transformer substations were upgraded and power metering and data collection information systems were installed.
Modernization of AB Achema power distribution was implemented based on contracts signed in 2012 with the Ministry of Economy of Republic of Lithuania and Lithuanian Business support Agency:
